We Are Back! Puns and All

“Guess who’s back, back again…”. Hahahaha I feel like I’m dating myself with the Slim Shady reference, but IYKYK. I’m so excited for a new blog post and even though things tend to slow down through the winter, I feel like we have stayed so busy! Some of that is due to shorter days, but also because we are now at the end of lambing season and puppies are about to go to their new homes. Whoaa puppies?!?!

Yes, since February, we have had 15 ewes lamb and June had a beautiful litter of puppies. We are so grateful for so many healthy lambs and very few losses. June had 8 perfect puppies and unfortunately we lost one, but the other 7 have grown up and started going to their new homes. We have enjoyed having puppies around but we are so excited to see them be successful in their new working homes. We were very picky about making sure all the puppies were going to working homes. If you speak to anyone with guardian dogs you know how adamant they are about them being working dogs and how important it is for them to be in a working environment. After learning how Cash and June work, we have seen first hand how instinctual it is for these dogs to do their job. We are so excited to see how these puppies grow up and carry on the tradition, and are grateful they are going to homes that we will be able to stay in contact with.

Not only have we added quite a few lambs to the herd, we have THREE new horses in our herd! I bought a weanling last November and if you follow us on social you have seen her make several appearances. In February, Bryson and our good friend Wally went to Texas to pick up babies and Bryson came home with two really nice little colts. They are starting to make appearances on social too…so you should be following us! All three babies have foundation quarter horse breeding and I’m so excited for their future here at the Three 10s.

Away from home, I have been on the crazy ride of Plan B teaching. Again, IYKYK. It has been wonderful having kids back in the classroom, and a whole different set of challenges from Plan C. And they could not let us finish the year without one more curveball, so we are set to transition to a version of Plan A in the middle of April. If you are not sure what all these “plans” are…consider yourself lucky. It will be great though, and we are so close to the end of the year anyway. Here’s to hoping for a normal 2021-2022 school year. Bryson has been non-stop at work as well, which is a blessing.

What’s next? We will continue to develop horses, the babies and the oldies. We are probably done lambing, but still have two ewes who were exposed, but we think are not bred. Puppies should all be in new homes by next week. It is time to get the garden ready. And, I’m so excited to revive the blog and continue sharing our journey of homesteading on the side!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

About Laura

Hello! My name is Laura. My husband Bryson and I live on a 30 acre farm and we are so excited to share our journey of creating our small homestead. In addition to learning about raising sheep, chickens, and gardens, my number one passion is riding my horses. I am also a huge book nerd, a personal growth and development junkie, and an avid fitness and nutrition student. I am also a full time high school agriculture teacher. Bryson is a full time stone mason, and his interest in raising sheep brought us to where we are today. He enjoys hunting and fishing in what little spare time he has. We are both excited to share our journey of homesteading on the side!
